Our advertising agency works for Law Firms that advertise to injured and disabled folks. Generally, these are people that have never used disability lawyers before. They don’t have a lawyer on retainer. They don’t know that a Disability Attorney is about the only way to really get the advocacy they need to survive devastating situations that challenge some people’s survival.
It all sounds real clinical when legal marketing people (or their advertising agency) uses lingo like “devastating situations.” By contrast, it gets really personal when advertising agency people see it in action:
We were shooting the video testimonial of a disabled woman to be used in advertising spot development for a Law Firm in Mississippi. And that means I’m in my art director mode with my head focused exclusively on lighting, sound, and getting the television ad clips shot within the time limitations we need to make an effective spot.
We interviewed a woman from South Mississippi who quite matter-of-factly told of her disability — how she had been “working at the shirt factory” where she had dutifully been employed for over twenty years. She candidly described how she just started dropping tools out of her hands unexpectedly while on her job. Her debilitating situation worsened. She needed medical care, so her truck driver husband drove her to a hospital in Memphis for a diagnosis.
She had a tumor in her brain that was causing debilitation of her motor skills…to the point that she needed around the clock care at home. Her husband wasn’t able to do it — he had to be on the road earning an income. So she continued to try to care for herself… women in South Mississippi do that kind of thing.
Her situation worsened exponentially when she learned that her insurance refused to cover the surgery and rehabilitation costs—and her disability was summarily denied when she made application.
I remember her statement: “hope was gone, and I was just gonna go on home…”. No whining — this tough woman that had worked all of her life in a shirt factory was just out of options. She was one tough woman. She held my admiration!
One of the client law firms of our advertising agency met with her, and immediately helped secure medical care for her. (The lawyer didn’t elaborate but I think he used some of his own money) He got her the surgery she needed. He made application and secured the disability money she deserved. This woman got justice that she had earned, and very much deserved through the advocacy of this attorney.
The young attorney got her suitable insurance coverage for the hospital — she got her surgery and he had the pleasure of telling her that she had been approved for the disability payments even while she was still in the hospital recovering.
It was all a beautiful picture I’ll never forget. These disability lawyers found this disabled, woman because of advertising. The client found advocacy — found a young professional that put time, money and most importantly HEART into his representation for this dear woman. And she literally would have been helpless without it.
Lawyer advertising, in this case, meant that a woman who couldn’t continue to work at the shirt factory in Southern Mississippi had an advocate that she deserved. Yes, it was justice in action. It was a beautiful picture of advocacy. And Legal Advertising was the conduit for relaying care for this deserving person.
Kirkpatrick Creative is proud to advertise for law firms that work as legal champions for folks enduring personal injury, bankruptcy, social security and disability issues. We’ve seen advocacy for people that can’t advocate for themselves with the return of justice for people.
I’ll never forget the lessons I learned that day! What an honor it was to see the care that this deserving woman received.
